With 19 apprentices now working for NRG Services, Tim O’Neill, Systems and Operations Manager at NRG Services, says that the company has always put a strong emphasis on training.
“Last year we engaged a new team member through a school-based program. Initially he was working two days a week but he has recently transitioned to a full-time apprenticeship, which is fantastic to see. We provide a cross section of work to our apprentices where they can gain a range of experience in various sectors,” said Tim.
NRG Services’ electrical and refrigeration apprentices are exposed to more than just standard jobs, with NRG Services working on some technically challenging projects including hospitals, data and communication centres, fire detection systems, sports field lighting, security systems and large urban infrastructure works.
Liam Harms, who recently completed a 4-year electrical apprenticeship with NRG, approached the company after deciding that a university degree wasn’t for him.
“Choosing to do an electrical apprenticeship was a great decision, I just love it,” says Liam, who counts the mateship he has with his team and the type of work he has been doing during his apprenticeship as the main highlights of working for NRG.
“I love heading to work, we’re all mates and we all really enjoy what we do,” says Liam.
Liam also made comment that he enjoys the diversity of projects and locations, including working on a very remote campsite in South Australia, and working on rural hospitals across South West Queensland.
For the apprentices at NRG no two days are the same, and the exposure they receive on different projects is helping to set them up for future success.
