NRG Services were engaged by the FKG Group mid-2018 to investigate costs for the construction of a new facility for Barenbrug in Wellcamp. Barenbrug is one of Australia’s largest seed companies and is a member of the Royal Barenbrug Group. Pre-awarded the project, NRG Services worked closely with both FKG and the client to design a facility specific to their requirements which would support the business into the future.

The Storage and Research facility includes 600m2 office space to accommodate 20+ staff; a 5,000m2 warehouse for high volume storage of their product – enabling export to international customers, a laboratory and value add room for continual research and development programs of their product; and a 900m2 undercover awning for loading/unloading of freight.

External works were completed and involved underground reticulation for power, communications, site wide security and access control, reticulation to facilitate an NBN connection, installation of a custom site switchboard and all associated distribution boards, and connection to 2x Fire Pump Sets and storage tank to service a sprinkled fire system.

As a Design and Construct project, NRG utilised several newly formed partnerships, including Commscope. Several NRG team members gained the required accreditations, and the Data and Communications installation was undertaken. Works were inspected by Commscope Management to verify that strict installation practices were being followed, and approval of this workmanship provided NRG with a strong position to continue the installation and warrant Commscope’s product on specified projects.

To assist with completion of the project, two sub-contractors were also engaged by NRG. Fire Comm were engaged to deliver dry fire detection, a Building Occupant Warning System, and complete the monitoring of 2x diesel fire pumps and all associated sprinkler valves. Amentco were contracted on a supply, terminate, commission basis and delivered site wide access control, intruder detection and CCTV. Both trades completed works to a quality standard.

Late in construction, NRG were awarded a variation to install a 100kW roof mounted solar system. The scope of these works was managed and completed wholly by the NRG team including the design, installation and commissioning.

Mechanical works on the project included a small HVAC-R package for the administration block and LAB area. The install incorporated a VRV Daikin System that served the administration offices and meeting rooms, including fresh air systems. The team also facilitated a late request to relocate a cold-room from the clients existing facility in Orford Court.

Overall, works were delivered to a high standard and this positive result was attributed to NRG’s involvement throughout the entire project, from pre-tender and design – with value engineering of the build brief; right through to the efforts of all involved with the construction and delivery of the project.
